Granada, me encanta!

Full Moon Rising Over the Alhambra

Well as you know by now, I am totally enamored with Madrid, Sevilla & Estepona, but the past two days I was fortunate enough to visit Granada and despite all my plans and thoughts about travel and retiring part time in Spain, Granada has changed my mind. It is difficult to put into words, but I will try.

Took the AVE (high speed rail) from Madrid and arrived in Granada at 11 pm. My apartment was in the Albaicin, one of the oldest districts, dating to the 11th Century. No cars permitted, so my taxi dropped me well above my apartment and I made my way down the cobbled streets paved in gold.

***have felt safer traveling in Spain than I do living in my hometown!!!

Technology allowed me to not only find my apartment in this maze of streets, but check in with my phone. I stayed for 2 nights at a newly renovated apartment with magical views.

When I woke the next morning I was astonished…and wandered (after a cafe & tostada) for hours. The water system dates from the 11th Century…fountains everywhere, the architecture, plazas and tranquility. Ahh.

An amazing lunch at Restaurante Carmen el Agua, despite the temperature (cooler than Los Gatos) I decided to lunch on the terraza with views of the Alhambra and the sound of an occasional bird as company.

Have you been to Granada? Please share…there is more to come. The Ahambra, the shopping, the dining…
