You all know my obsession with food, dining out, eating in general…and Granada has some dishes that are indigenous to the south, but like all of Spain, the day begins with un cafe-I was fortunate enough to stay a few feet away from the amazing cafe4gatos https://www.cafe4gatos.com/
In the south of Spain, like everywhere I have found, the food is remarkable. With some things that are difficult to find anywhere else in the world!
Two of my favorite restaurants in the Albaicin were El Trillo-incredible food, setting, views service… https://www.restaurante-eltrillo.com/ and Carmen del Agua, again amazing dishes, service, views… https://goo.gl/maps/F7tYtEB7zQYwqUj37

Boquerones are perhaps the quintessential Andulusian tapa or racione. Crispy fried anchovies or sardines that are like a french fry/fritte with more protein (easier to justify!) and flavor-sometimes served in a cone.

***The photo above was taken in a little bodega where I shared some of mine with a lovely abuelita (a regular & I would guess is 90?) who walked in with 2 canes & when she saw & smelled mine, said ahhh pescado frito que rico! (fried fish, delicious). She ordered a glass of wine; love this country!
**Bodega owner had flamenco/traditional music blaring from the radio & came out every 15 minutes to smoke on the sidewalk; love this country!
*full disclosure, when in Pozuelo for the Madrid Open I had a quiet lunch next door to our hotel and ordered a media (half order) of the boquerones. As is customary, the head waiter also worked dinner.
(Side bar, like other parts of the world being the head waiter is not only lucrative, but a very pride filled job. You might see 100 people working in a restaurant, but when it comes to ordering, only 1 person (typically a man) can take your actual order and bring you your actual check.)
When I returned for dinner that night and ordered a half order with my British companeros, he looked at me and said “ahh como media dia?” (Oh and like lunch)-I was slightly embarrassed but not enough to keep me from eating my dinner racione! *creepy photographer that I am I didn’t take or ask to take his photo* see post on Lavapies
Do you have a favorite dessert or sweet or savory? I find new ones everywhere I go!
