Granada…The Alhambra

I was fortunate enough to find a lovely apartment that had been fully renovated, with stunning views of this magical palace; a fortress and city built in the 13th century.

There is something about the energy and beauty here that reminds me of a few places in the United States, the pink sunsets in Ojai, CA, the red mountains of Utah (Snow Canyon, Zion, Escalante). In fact Alhambra means the Red House, derived from the Arabic word al-hamra.

The history, the architecture, the fountains, the details are remarkable. Can’t even make a dent-best left to the historians to explain.

I can only hope to share some of it in words and photos; it truly needs to be seen in person-along with the city of Granada.

An entire system of aqua ducts supplies water to the Alhambra and its surroundings. Engineering of the highest form for the 13th Century, creating an oasis of fountains, ponds and streams that bring tranquility and refreshment even on the warmest of days.
