It doesn’t take a genius for us to know that living is learning and learning is living. It can be scary, but also so amazing. Whether its tasting a new dish, speaking a foreign language, trying a new anything; the Nike slogan comes to mind? Just Do It!
Yesterday I tried a new dish during my last day in Malaga-

Perfect little spot, sat at the end of an alley, only Spanish being spoken & sorry forgot the photo of the Flemanquin!
And then!!!

Absolutely amazing! You can clink on the link above or if you have time, read on… There is no body shaming in a Hamman (turkish or arabic spa). It was for me, something entirely new, except for the warm water.
You enter and are guided (after changing into your suit) to the various baths and treatments (depending on what you have chosen). It is dark, candle lit, no phones, little to no talking, smells amazing and everywhere the sound of water.
I had no idea what to expect, even after viewing the website and choosing the exfoliation and massage! As it’s winter, I stayed safe with the warm pool (looking up there’s a pattern of stars in the round ceiling), the steam room and the hot stones that you lie on.
My ADD kicked in and I started to wander a bit and wonder when my massage and exfoliation might be starting. There are stairs, cold, warm and hot baths, curtains and did I mention it smelled really good? I ran into my guide (dressed in a white robe & speaking softly) and was informed it was about 5 minutes away.
I found a little table with tea and drank the sweet warm mint tea. I rested. I relaxed. I meditated. I thanked God. Then a gentle tap that it was time for my treatments.
I was led into another big dark room with multiple marble cubicles and introduced to my masseuse, who asked in a whisper, what type of oil I wanted (Red Amber!) and then started with “la limpieza”. Lying on a massage table covered with the same type of cloth I was given to cover up with. Hot water was poured over me, falling to the floor, then some kind of magic giant washcloth that she snapped in the air and I was then covered with bubbles and then more hot water to rinse.
Then the exfoliation…scrubbing. Nothing more to be said here!
The warmth, the candlelight, the silence, the oils, the massage-I hope this is not my only Hammam experience.
