Shannon in Salamanca-super!

Must say, as hard as I try, I still can cut things very close. Don’t, and I repeat don’t, ask friends or family about my ability to wait to the last minute and this morning was no different!

Yes….65 years old and was last seen running down the platform to catch the train to Salamanca. Lovely! I wasn’t the only one, but the others were young & with backpacks, not like my 2 suitcases-one that I’ve named Bruto.

***ensuing chaos trying to fit the bags of several others onto the rack that required 2 conductors to sternly address the situation. afterwards I quietly went to a window seat instead of my assigned group of 4 at a table and me facing backwards, only to be addressed by aforementioned stern conductor that under NO circumstances was I to change seats. he left in a mini-huff saying he would check with his companero; never to return.

From the windows fields of sunflowers (a little more brown that this stock photo), orchards of pine trees (pignolias?), farms, a sheepherder tending his flock, persons walking seemingly in the middle of nowhere and eagles-different kinds and more than I’ve seen in a lifetime in California. Sadly; I didn’t take a single photo-you’ll just have to take my word.

My hotel, view of the Cathedral of Salamanca from the front door & the side entrance to the Cathedral. Incredible views, incredible value, staff, rooms-highly recommend. https://www.sercotelhoteles.com/es/hotel-sercotel-puerta-de-la-catedral?utm_source=google&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=metasearch-links

***full disclosure; serious issues with wordpress-had hilarious captions for the slideshow above, but alas-unable to navigate

Since my room wasn’t quite ready and I was unable to shower after the sweat I worked up on the platform, I stowed my bags and took off on foot to explore and of course eat. What an incredible centro- Casco Antiguo; I arrived early enough that it was cool and somewhat void of crowds.

Music filling the streets and the hum of a city awaiting its day….

  1. would have loved to see you running down the platform, at least you caught the train. I know three gals who didn’t!
